Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that midfielder Scott McTominay has suffered an injury during the club’s 3-0 Europa League win over Partizan Belgrade on Thursday night.
The 22-year-old picked up a knock on his ankle following a late challenge during the midway stage of the second half but he was not able to shrug off the problem and was replaced by Jesse Lingard in the 75th minute.
Following the game, Solskjaer was asked about the fitness of McTominay and he happened to admit that the midfielder remains doubtful for the forthcoming Premier League clash against Brighton & Hove Albion.
“Scott is more of a concern, so let’s see how he recovers in the next few days,” he told.
United have suffered multiple injury setbacks since the beginning of the campaign and the midfield department has been drastically affected with Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic still receiving treatment.
Amidst this, McTominay has suffered a rather untimely setback and the next few days should give an idea whether the Scot will continue to maintain his ever-present record in the Premier League this term.
Should McTominay be sidelined, Solskjaer may have to choose between Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard and James Garner for the midfield role alongside Fred.
United registered a comfortable 3-0 win over Partizan on Thursday night and that has sealed their progress to the last 16 of the competition with two games to spare.
The Red Devils are scheduled to entertain Brighton at Old Trafford for Sunday’s league meeting and nothing less than three points would do, given they are already 10 points off the top four places.
