Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said that Paul Pogba could be sidelined until the end of November as he continues to recover from an ankle problem, initially sustained against Southampton in the Premier League in August.
The midfielder returned to first-team action for a couple of games against Rochdale and Arsenal last month but that only aggravated his injury as he had not fully recovered. It was initially suggested that he could remain on the sidelines until November but Solskjaer has now confirmed that the 26-year-old may not return to the playing field for the next four weeks at the least.
“I don’t think we’ll see Paul before December. He’ll be out for a while. He needs time to fully recover. I don’t think he’ll be back, maybe for Sheffield United after the international break, but probably it will be December before we can see him,” he was quoted as saying on the club’s official website.
Alongside Pogba, Nemanja Matic is currently on the injury list and this has left Solskjaer with just two senior central midfielders in the form of Scott McTominay and Fred. McTominay has been one of the top performers this campaign and Fred has recently partnered him with efficiency, and made seven tackles during the recent 3-1 triumph over Norwich City.
United have an away League Cup game against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea on Wednesday night. The Blues have been on a high with seven victories on the bounce across all competitions and the Red Devils will need to be at their best in order to overcome the testing challenge. Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford will likely remain crucial towards the final outcome after bagging three of the four league goals during the 4-0 drubbing of the Blues in August.
