Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial are expected to miss tomorrow’s Premier League clash against Leicester City at Old Trafford.
Martial picked up a thigh problem during the shock 2-1 league defeat to Crystal Palace last month and it seems that he has not completely recovered from the setback despite the international break.
Pogba, on the other hand, sustained an ankle injury during the closing stages of the 1-1 draw at Southampton and that contributed towards his omission from the France squad after initially getting the nod.
Speaking to MUTV, Solskjaer has acknowledged that both Pogba and Martial are out for the weekend encounter and it would take a miracle for the former to make the playing field on Saturday.
He added that the injured duo could return for the Premier League clash at West Ham United next weekend, he said: “Pogba won’t be fit, no, unless he’s had a miraculous recovery overnight from yesterday to today or maybe from tonight to tomorrow.
“He’s not been ready to do 100 per cent training, no. We hope, as I’ve said, that more can be ready for West Ham next week and Paul and Anthony are in that category. I think they’ll be ready for then and I can’t say more than that really.”
Martial’s absence should witness another run for Marcus Rashford in the centre-forward role and the England international has plenty to prove after failing to find the net in the past three games where he has been disappointing.
Meanwhile, Nemanja Matic could be handed with his maiden start of the campaign in the absence of Pogba. The Serbian has been out-of-favour during the opening stages of the current season and has managed just 22 minutes of league action.
Apart from the duo, Luke Shaw (hamstring), Diogo Dalot (hip problem), Eric Bailly and Timothy Fosu-Mensah (both knee surgery) are definitely out of the encounter, but Jesse Lingard (illness) and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (back injury) stand a 50 percent chance of making the matchday squad tomorrow.
