According to The Athletic, Manchester United have renewed their interest in Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer still views the Norwegian forward as a priority target at Old Trafford. The plans are already underway to try and lure him to the club.
Manchester United have already added a new striker to their ranks. Edinson Cavani joined the Reds on the deadline day on a free transfer. He is giving off good vibes in his first days at the club and is set to rival Anthony Martial for the starting spot.
Cavani has a 12-month contract with United but could be extended by another 12 months – meaning he could depart the club in 2022.
Erling Haaland has a £68m release clause valid in the summer of 2022 written into his Dortmund contract. It is the perfect opportunity for Manchester United to ‘poach’ the ‘poacher’.
Solskjaer has already managed Haaland during their time together at Norwegian club Molde and believes Haaland will become Europe’s most elite striker of the next decade. He thinks a high price tag is ‘justified’ for a talent like him.
Though, there are a lot of problems left to deal with before Solskjaer could complete his dream reunion.
United have already damaged some relations in their previous pursuit of Haaland in 2019. Their negotiations with Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola ended fractiously last year, with the club still engaged in a war of words with the agent. But, the bridges are believed to be intact between Solskjaer and Erling Haaland.
Secondly, Man United also have a lot of competition before they can get Haaland. Real Madrid and Juventus are also interested in the striker and are willing to finance a big-money move for him. Erling Haaland himself prefers a move to Real Madrid.
