Ole gives injury update on Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez was absent from the matchday squad as Manchester United beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at Wembley Stadium on Sunday.

Marcus Rashford’s fine finish just before half-time after collecting an exquisite pass from Paul Pogba was the only goal of the game but it was David de Gea who won the man of the match honours by pulling off 11 saves as Spurs dominated the second half.

The Spanish goalkeeper has now kept back-to-back clean sheets after keeping only two in our first 20 Premier League games this season.

Speaking after the game, caretaker manager revealed that Alexis Sanchez was not ready to face Spurs in North London as the Chilean star is still working on his fitness.

Sanchez started our 2-0 win over Reading in the FA Cup the previous weekend but went off just after the hour mark with an apparent injury.

The boss told MUTV that the attacker was not involved in the matchday squad at Spurs because he was not ready. Ole said:

“He is not ready yet no. Hopefully I think he will be training when we get back, maybe Wednesday he will be full training. It is just one of those blows. He is just having a hard time getting rid of it [the injury] so hopefully next week maybe he can be involved.”

Three points at Wembley moved us to within seven points of Spurs who sit third, but we remain six points outside of the Champions League places as Chelsea beat Newcastle United 2-1 on Saturday.

We host Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Saturday. Three points would guarantee that we either overtake Arsenal into sole fifth spot, or close the gap on Chelsea as the two London rivals meet on the same day.
