Manchester United are set to take on Championship strugglers Reading in the third round of this season’s FA Cup at Old Trafford.
After a busy Christmas fixture list caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is expected to rotate a number of players this weekend.
The Norwegian has been speaking at this morning’s pre-match press conference and has confirmed two players who will face the Royals tomorrow.
Solskjaer confirmed that both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez will be in the starting lineup for the first time since he took the reigns last month.
Lukaku was absent for Ole’s first two games in charge but has come off the bench to score in each of our last two games. He has been rewarded with a starting appearance in the FA Cup, which will also allow Marcus Rashford to get a rest.
The second starter that the boss has confirmed is Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean was a second half substitute in our 2-0 win at Newcastle United on Wednesday – his first appearance since late November when he suffered a hamstring injury.
Ole told MUTV:
“There’ll be a few changes and they’ll get a chance. Some of them are itching now to play, of course. Get Lukaku a start, get Sanchez a start. That’s important for them, because they need more game time.”
Manchester United host Reading in a 12:30 kickoff at Old Trafford on Saturday looking to make it five wins in as many games under the leadership of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
