Manchester United have officially confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Andre Onana ahead of the 2026–27 campaign.
The Red Devils announced that the Cameroon international has rejoined Trabzonspor on another season-long loan.
It is a straight loan and comes without any option to buy.
Onana spent the previous campaign with the Turkish side after INEOS deemed him surplus to requirements in the summer of 2025.
He made 33 appearances for Trabzonspor and played an important role in helping the club lift the Turkish Cup.
United invested an initial £47.2 million to sign Onana from Inter Milan in 2024 after then-manager Erik ten Hag decided it was time to move on from David de Gea.
The Cameroonian arrived with huge expectations and was expected to revolutionise United’s build-up play from the back.
However, he made several high-profile errors between the sticks that led to instability in defence.
Despite receiving two full seasons to prove himself, Onana never managed to justify the excitement surrounding his arrival.
Everything changed last summer when United signed Senne Lammens, who immediately demonstrated the qualities the club had been missing.
The Belgian quickly impressed with his outstanding shot-stopping, commanding presence and reliability from set-pieces.
Onana had no future at United, particularly given his enormous wages and reduced role within the squad.
According to journalist Samuel Luckhurst, Trabzonspor will cover his full wages and will also pay a €1.5m loan fee to United.
This is positive news for the Red Devils, as Onana will no longer be on their wage bill.
INEOS would ideally have wanted a permanent transfer, but there was limited interest in the goalkeeper.
Although this is only another loan move, it gives United valuable financial breathing space while keeping future options open.
If Onana performs consistently in Turkey once again, INEOS could finally attract permanent interest next summer and bring an end to a transfer saga that has dragged on for far too long.
