Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has broken his silence on the possibility of Marcus Rashford returning to Old Trafford.
There are big question marks over the future of Rashford after Barcelona decided against triggering the buy clause in his loan agreement.
The 28-year-old could now find himself back at United if no club reaches an agreement to sign him permanently this summer.
Speaking on a recent episode of The Rest Is Football, Maguire was asked whether he would welcome Rashford back to the Theatre of Dreams.
He said: “Yeah, of course, I have an amazing relationship with Marcus and have had some great times with him over the years.
“I know what a wonderful player he can be. I’m sure it’s up to the club and up to Marcus to find a mutual agreement. Of course, if Marcus does come back, we want him to come back and play and be happy and confident.
“It needs to be right for himself, it needs to be right for the club, but everyone knows what a great player Marcus can be for whatever club he plays for next season.”
Transfer saga could drag on until deadline day
Rashford fell out with former Man United manager Ruben Amorim in late 2024 and was sent on a six-month loan to Aston Villa.
He then secured a dream switch to Barcelona last summer, with the Spanish champions holding a £26 million option to make the deal permanent.
After registering 28 goal contributions in 49 games and helping the Catalans retain their La Liga crown, many expected Rashford to join them permanently.
However, Barcelona stunned many by prioritising the signing of Anthony Gordon in a deal worth around £69m earlier this month.
The Catalan giants could yet reignite their interest before the transfer window closes, but United are only prepared to sanction a permanent sale.
Current United head coach Michael Carrick shared the dressing room with Rashford when the academy graduate burst onto the scene under Louis van Gaal.
The 44-year-old has a good relationship with the forward, which has inevitably fuelled speculation over a sensational Old Trafford reunion.
However, INEOS played a major role in pushing Rashford out last year and it would be a surprise if they brought him back.
The forward is also due to earn a staggering £320,000 per week at United, creating another major obstacle to any potential reintegration into the squad.
