Manchester United started the new Premier League season with a 1-0 victory over Fulham at Old Trafford last night.
Noussair Mazraoui made his debut for the Red Devils at right-back. He was brilliant with a passing accuracy of 92 percent.
The Moroccan star won 100 percent of his ground duels (3/3) alongside 75 percent of his aerial challenges (3/4).
He also won 100 percent of his tackles (2/2) with three interceptions and five ball recoveries.
It was an impressive debut outing for the former Bayern Munich star, who only joined the club earlier in the week.
The 26-year-old previously played under manager Erik ten Hag at Ajax for four seasons.
It was unsurprising that Mazraoui was able to adapt quickly. The £26 million-rated ace caught the eye with his inverted runs into midfield.
He was one of the stand-out performers alongside Kobbie Mainoo.
The Red Devils were far from their best against the Cottagers. They should have scored more goals with the chances created in both halves.
Bruno Fernandes missed two clear-cut opportunities in the first half. Alejandro Garnacho squandered an easy chance in stoppage time.
It did not prove costly against Marco Silva’s side who mustered only a couple of shots on target.
Against a better opposition, the result could have been different. Ten Hag addressed the same concern in his post-match press conference.
United’s next game will be against Brighton & Hove Albion on the road on Saturday. It will be an early kick-off from the Amex Stadium.
Joshua Zirkzee should be rewarded a starting role up front after scoring a late winner against Fulham.
Matthijs de Ligt could make his full debut alongside Zirkzee. The 25-year-old replaced Harry Maguire yesterday.
The central defender should be fancied to partner Lisandro Martinez from the off at Brighton.
