Nottingham Forest ‘open talks’ with Manchester United over a deal to sign Dean Henderson

Manchester United and Nottingham Forest have started discussions over the possible transfer of Dean Henderson this summer, according to The Athletic.

The talks between the two clubs are in the early stages, but Forest are optimistic about completing the deal.

The Red Devils are close to signing Andre Onana from Inter Milan. He will take the spot between the sticks vacated by David de Gea’s departure.

Henderson spent the previous season on loan at Forest and is ‘convinced‘ that he will reunite with the club.

Man Utd must demand a healthy fee for Dean Henderson

Henderson is one of the few unwanted players in the United squad whose departure could help them to boost their transfer budget.

Forest expect him to head back to the City Ground in a deal that could be worth up to £20 million.

This would be a decent sale from United’s perspective. They could also use performance-related add-ons to improve their profit.

Henderson has no intention of serving as a back-up and feels ready to take the next step in his career.

With Onana moving to The Theatre of Dreams, it will be tough for the England international to take the number one spot.

It makes sense for all parties to finalise this transfer. United could use the funds to bolster other positions of the squad.

Forest will get a decent shot-stopper who will be motivated to perform well to seal his spot in the national team for the 2024 European Championship.

Once Onana officially joins Man United, the transfer discussions will likely speed up.
