Newcastle v Man United December fixture rescheduled for TV coverage

Manchester United have been informed that their trip to Newcastle United in December has been rescheduled after the fixture was selected for live television coverage.

Both sides were initially scheduled to lock horns on December 2 at St James’ Park, with kick-off time slated for 3.00 pm.

However, the game will now start at 8.00 pm, with TNT Sports selecting the match as their live broadcast choice for that weekend.

The shift in the kick-off time is due to new rules introduced this season that aim to provide teams involved in midweek Champions League matches with more rest and travel time.

The decision to create this new time slot stems from concerns raised about the gap between European fixtures and early Saturday kick-offs, allowing for better player recovery.

Man United will travel to Turkey on November 29 for their Champions League second-leg encounter against Galatasaray, which is scheduled to kick off at 5.45 pm.

Newcastle will have already locked horns with Paris Saint-Germain in France, just one day before Man United’s midweek fixture.

The rescheduled fixture will mark the first Premier League meeting between the two sides this season, although they will first face off in the Carabao Cup.

Man United will host the Magpies on home turf for the League Cup fixture in a repeat of February’s final when Erik ten Hag’s side ran out 2-0 winners – although that success occurred at Wembley Stadium.

The last time Man United locked horns with Newcastle at St James’ Park, Eddie Howe’s side ran out 2-0 winners, having previously held the Red Devils to a scoreless stalemate at Old Trafford.

Following the late Saturday kick-off against Newcastle in December, Man United will have a packed schedule with eight fixtures in total during the month.

If Ten Hag’s side advance to the League Cup quarter-finals, there may be additional rescheduling required for their Premier League fixtures.
