Newcastle open talks over loan deal for Dean Henderson

Newcastle United have entered talks with Manchester United over a loan deal for goalkeeper Dean Henderson, Daily Mail reports.

The England international has played second fiddle to David de Gea this campaign. He has made just four appearances across all competitions.

Interim boss Ralf Rangnick recently said that he has no desire of losing Henderson, but he appears to have made a U-turn on the decision.

The German has finally relented over his stance. The Magpies are optimistic of landing the shot-stopper on loan before Monday’s 11 pm deadline.

Our view:

Henderson had a bright end to the previous campaign, where he was a regular between the sticks in the Premier League.

It was anticipated that he could displace De Gea in goal this term, but he started the season on the sidelines due to coronavirus.

Since his comeback, he has hardly had the chance to displace De Gea, who has put in stand-out displays in almost every game.

The Spaniard has not been helped by a vulnerable backline but has been alert to secure several points for the Red Devils.

It is clear that Henderson will continue to play second fiddle, and he may not make another appearance this season.

Barring injuries, he could be a regular on the bench. It appears Rangnick has now decided to give in to the player’s wish.

United have a proven Premier League goalkeeper in Tom Heaton as the third choice, and he can provide quality back-up.

The only concern is that he has made just one competitive appearance off the bench over the last 24 months.
