Manchester United agreed a deal with Paraguayan club Cerro Porteno in January to sign youngster Diego Leon.
They will reportedly pay an initial fee of £3.2 million, which could rise to £7m with the add-ons for his signature.
He is one of the three signings United are expected to announce this week, with young English defender Harley Emsden-James and French starlet Enzo Kana-Biyik being the others.
The 18-year-old is expected to be a part of the academy set-up to get more playing time next season.
Denmark international Patrick Dorgu is manager Ruben Amorim’s first-choice left wing-back, with Luke Shaw capable of serving as a back-up.
Harry Amass is another option, having debuted for the first team last term.
With the several options at left wing-back, Leon would have difficulty getting playing time with the first team.
However, the Paraguayan starlet has expressed his determination to fight for a place in the first team and dismissed speculations about going out on loan.
He told ABC TV: “ I have a lot of confidence in myself. Everyone thinks I’ll go out on loan, but I don’t have that mindset.
“I’m going to kill it in the preseason, and within one or two games, I’ll already be playing with them.”
United will begin pre-season training next week, and Leon will have an opportunity to impress manager Ruben Amorim.
He could make his first appearance for United when they face Leeds United in a pre-season clash at the Strawberry Arena in Sweden on July 19.
Leon will be the first Paraguayan to play for the Red Devils and relishes the opportunity to represent the club.
The talented full-back is optimistic about joining the Manchester outfit, saying he is ‘going to be at the top with them’.
