Moyes hails Rooney’s impact

Zemanta Related Posts ThumbnailDavid Moyes hailed Wayne Rooney as the main man for Manchester United and England during today’s press conference, during which he emphasised the impact the United striker has had for club and country.

Speaking to the press at Carrington, Moyes claimed that Rooney’s remarkable turnaround in form and performances is due to a new-found maturity, and both United and England have been reaping the benefits of a more settled, happier, Rooney.

“From that [ the performance] point of view, it’s what you’d expect,” said Moyes. “He takes responsibility, scores the goals that are required and he’s done that from a young age. The age he is now, he’s got that maturity and it shows in how he plays and the condition he is in with the way he is playing for club and country.

“I saw Wayne on that first day of pre-season and yet you people [the press] were telling me you felt differently. I saw him in great form and great fettle, training fantastic from day one, but you want to say different things.”

The United manager admitted that while a few players came back from the international break with minor injuries concerns, the overall situation was rather positive. “It’s always a concern, especially when you have so many players are away like we do. I’ll monitor training today one or two are nursing (knocks?) so we’ll need to look at it but hopefully they will be okay.”

United are ninth after seven games, six points adrift of league-leaders Arsenal but Moyes insisted that, despite an unimpressive start to the season, going into the international break on the back of a positive result could be crucial in helping United to kickstart their season from now on, starting with tomorrow’s game against Southampton.

“Everybody knows where they are in the calendar and sometimes you get the international break on the back of a bad result and sometimes off a good result. We went into it with a good result,” said the United manager.
