Moussa Dembele has not yet ruled out a summer move as interest sparks within the English Premier League. According to the MEN, the 24-year-old is “open” to the transfer, although is not “desperate” to leave Lyon.
The Frenchman was on United’s radar last summer as well, as they attempted to replace Romelu Lukaku. Having netted 24 goals this season for Lyon, his worth hasn’t fallen short since.
The Ligue 1 side defied the odds in the Champions League, beating Juventus and Man City before finally succumbing to Bayern Munich in the semi-finals.
But despite this miracle run, they will NOT be in next season’s competition, or even the Europa League, after finishing seventh in the French league.
The club’s sporting director, Juninho remains confident in the club’s future but at the same time has admitted that there will be departures this summer.
He told RMC Sport via Goal.com: “The aim now is to continue working, immediately with Ligue 1.
“We will have to work. If we continue like this, we will be back in this competition.
“When you are well paid, you need motivation every day, we are going to concentrate on Ligue 1. There are the basics.
“There will be departures, but I am not worried.
“When you have players who play very well in a competition like this, like Moussa and Houssem [Aouar]…
“We will have to show the same spirit to be back in the Champions League next season.”
Dembele has proved his worth at Europe’s biggest stage last week as he scored twice against Manchester City to book his club a semi-final spot. His heroics against city rivals has already won him the hearts of the supporters at the Old Trafford.
Speaking in June manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer revealed United are open to signing another striker to keep their current forwards focussed.
“You need competition for places at Man United,” he said. “If you think you’ve got a divine right to be playing every game and are doing so well that we’re not going to look for players to replace you, you’re in the wrong place.
“I’ve been here myself for so many years as a striker and Teddy Sheringham comes in, Dwight Yorke comes in, Ruud van Nistelrooy comes in, Wayne Rooney comes in.
“We’ve always got to look at improving, and if they don’t improve, we might have to look somewhere else to get better because we have to be better. We’re too far away from where we need to be and want to be.”
Its highly unlikely United will make a move as Odion Inghalo stays at Old Trafford until January 2021. United have Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood as front-runners for the striker role too. However, if United make a move, Dembele is a real treat.
