‘Most confident’: Rio Ferdinand backs Man Utd to beat Liverpool at Anfield

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has backed the Red Devils to beat Liverpool in Sunday’s much-awaited Premier League clash at Anfield.

United have been impressive form under manager Erik ten Hag over the past few months and they recently ended their six-year trophy drought.

The club travel to Anfield tomorrow to face Jurgen Klopp’s side and speaking to BT Sport, Ferdinand has backed the Red Devils to secure three points.

United have not won at Anfield since January 2016 but Ferdinand says he is ‘most confident’ that United can put an end to the wretched league streak.

He said: “Nervous? This is the most confident I’ve been going into a Liverpool game for probably the last six or seven years.”

“This is the most confident I’ve been. I think Man United are on (the way up) whereas Liverpool have stagnated and taken a couple of steps backwards.

“They’ve been on a formidable run in the last few years, but they aren’t the Liverpool team that we’ve seen in the last few years at the moment.”

United will fancy their chances of beating Liverpool

United started their revolution under manager Erik ten Hag with a 2-1 win over the Reds back in August.

It was a brilliant counter-attacking display from United who had lost their opening two league games.

The scenario is different this time around with the club in the ascendancy. United are now a more possession based outfit and have been willing to play with a positive mindset away from home.

Ten Hag will expect his team to play with a high intensity at Anfield and they should fancy their chances against a defence that has looked vulnerable for most of the campaign.

Liverpool have kept a clean sheet in each of their last four league outings. However, they conceded five against Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie.

The Merseyside outfit are there for the taking and United have the opportunity to do the league double over them for the first time since the 2015/16 season.
