Morgan Rogers admired by Michael Carrick and Jason Wilcox but Man United face impossible deal

Manchester United are preparing for a huge summer rebuild ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

While bolstering midfield is a clear priority, INEOS are also looking at other areas where improvement is needed.

According to The Athletic, Man United are firm advocates to sign Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.

United manager Michael Carrick and Director of Football Jason Wilcox have a good relationship with the England international.

Rogers previously worked under Carrick at Middlesbrough and also spent time with Wilcox during his academy years at Manchester City.

The 23-year-old enjoyed a sensational season after registering 14 goals and 12 assists across all competitions.

United unlikely to sign Morgan Rogers

Aston Villa are expected to demand a fee higher than £100 million to sanction his exit.

They believe Jack Grealish’s transfer fee to Man City in 2021 should serve as the foundation for any negotiations.

Rogers is also not agitating for a move away and is highly regarded by Villa manager Unai Emery.

Any transfer is likely to happen only if a club meet their asking price for the Englishman.

The Red Devils are already expected to spend heavily on rebuilding their midfield department this summer.

Their second major priority is understood to be the addition of a new left-back.

Under those circumstances, it currently feels highly unlikely that United will possess the financial flexibility required to spend more than £100m on Rogers.

The Red Devils could instead decide to revisit the deal next summer if Rogers remains at Villa Park for another season.
