Hector Moreno has apologised to Luke Shaw for the tackle that saw the Manchester United left-back suffer a double-leg fracture, but insisted he did not mean any harm.
Shaw was stretchered off while receiving oxygen after 15 minutes, as a reckless challenge from the PSV defender snapped his right leg. After the game, Louis Van Gaal said the challenge should have been punish with a red card, but Moreno insisted the challenger was a fair one.
“I don’t know what happened, I don’t remember,” he said.
“I just feel really bad because I was involved in the accident. I feel really sorry.”
“I think not (that it was a foul),” added the Mexican defender, who suffered a similar injury when Mexico lost against Holland at the World Cup in 2014.
“I think I played the ball, but in this kind of situation I don’t care if it was a foul, I feel bad for him, for his family.
“I don’t know how bad it is. I had myself that situation like that during the World Cup and it’s bad.”
Van Gaal has expressed some hope Shaw might return this season but the 20-year-old, who will undergo surgery today, is unlikely to play again before the end of the campaign.
