AC Milan forward Hakan Calhanoglu is set to ward off interest from Manchester United and sign a renewal at Milan according to reports.
Calhanoglu racked up nine goals and nine assists in Serie A this season, exploding after lockdown as he netted six goals and grabbed eight assists.
Calhanoglu’s form, contract situation and United’s inability to close the Sancho deal brought the player to Manchester United’s attention.
However, Sunday’s edition of Tuttosport (via MilanLive) reports that Calhanoglu is not interested in seeking a new club and instead is all set to renew his contract with Milan.
Calhanoglu agreed on a new deal until 2024 which will see him earn €3million net per season, therefore €6m gross and a €24m total commitment from the club.
Hakan Calhanoglu’s contract extension is a big blow to Manchester United. This is becoming a trend in recent times, with the Red Devils being unable to close out transfers and bring new additions to Old Trafford.
Manchester United have been beaten to the signature of defender Gabriel, fallen behind in the race to sign Ben Chilwell from Leicester, Jack Grealish from Aston Villa and Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli.
The biggest failure of the club’s transfer policy is the no agreement of a deal with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho.
Sancho’s move from Germany to England has stalled and is reaching a dead-end very quickly.
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer is looking for new additions to his team, with squad depth a big concern for Manchester United. The Red Devil’s failure to bring in fresh faces doesn’t bode well for the future at Old Trafford.
