‘Medical completed’: Willy Kambwala set to leave Man United for Villarreal in £8.4m deal

Manchester United defender Willy Kambwala has moved closer to completing his move to Villarreal.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Kambwala underwent his medical on Sunday.

The Red Devils will receive around £8.4 million including add-ons to sanction his departure. They will also have a buy-back and sell-on clause.

His current contract with United expires next summer with the club having the option to extend it by 12 months.

Kambwala made ten appearances across all competitions last season, including three Premier League starts.

The right time to let Kambwala leave Man United

Many people will raise their eyebrows at Kambwala’s exit, but this move makes complete business sense.

The 19-year-old is a top talent but still needs to learn his trade at the highest level.

He has only one year left on his contract and has already rejected a new deal at United.

The presence of the new hierarchy at Old Trafford is already evident. They have shown business acumen by adding a buy-back clause and sell-on clauses.

If Kambwala makes a name for himself in La Liga, United could re-sign him by activating the buy-back clause.

The Red Devils were in a similar dilemma a few years back. Axel Tuanzebe was a promising centre-half but left the club as a free agent.

United are in the middle of an overhaul of their centre-back department.

Raphael Varane has left Old Trafford. Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire face uncertain futures, although the latter wants to stay at the club.

United want to sign Lille defender Leny Yoro and are in advanced talks with Bayern Munich for Matthijs de Ligt.

They have tabled two bids for Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, but the Toffees are sticking to their £70m valuation.
