Mauricio Pochettino fed up at PSG, was ready to join Man Utd in January

Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino was willing to join Manchester United last month after being fed up at the French giants, Foot Mercato claims.

Pochettino has been with Les Parisiens since January last year, but there has been regular speculation that he is unsettled in the French capital.

It is now reported that the 49-year-old is ‘fed up’ at the club on both sporting and non-sporting terms and could be on his way out this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur failed with an approach to re-sign Pochettino last summer. It has since been reported that the Red Devils have identified him as their main managerial target.

Talks were initiated after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sacking in November. It is claimed that the Argentine was even ‘willing to join’ the club last month, though nothing materialised.

L’Equipe (via Sport Witness) has now reported that ‘Manchester United’s interest has returned to his ears’. There appears a good possibility that he could become the next head coach.

Our view:

United were linked with Pochettino in November after suggestions that he was disillusioned with life in Paris.

However, it was clear that Paris Saint-Germain were not keen on changing managers midway through the season.

Pochettino appears on course to leave Les Parisiens this summer, and the Red Devils are bound to pounce on the opportunity. As per David Ornstein, the Argentine is one of the prime managerial targets.

There has been some talk about interim boss Ralf Rangnick continuing next season, but we don’t see that happening after the hierarchy were reluctant to back him during the recent winter transfer window.

A new defensive midfielder was on the radar of Rangnick, but the board passed the chance to sign Boubacar Kamara as they wanted to save funds for the new head coach to spend in the summer.
