Manchester United have completed the signing of Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich in a deal worth up to €50 million.
The 25-year-old has penned an initial five-year contract at Old Trafford, with the club having the option to extend it by another 12 months.
Manager Erik ten Hag knows the defender well, having worked with him at Ajax.
De Ligt praised the Dutch boss for shaping his career and expressed excitement over the opportunity to work with him again.
He told Manutd.com: “As soon as I heard that Manchester United wanted me, I felt an excitement about the opportunity for a new challenge at such a historic club.
“In the conversations that followed, I was impressed by the vision that the football leadership set out and the role they saw for me in it.
“Erik ten Hag shaped the early stages of my career, so he knows how to get the best out of me and I cannot wait to work with him again.
“I know what it takes to succeed at the highest level, and I’m determined to continue that record at this special club.”
Man United have had an impressive summer transfer window. They completed moves for Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkzee before recently confirming the signings of De Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.
Yoro is currently sidelined with a long-term injury, but he made a highly encouraging first appearance against Rangers in a pre-season friendly last month.
Zirkzee may need some time to adapt to the Premier League, but he has plenty of potential and is expected to be successful.
De Ligt boasts plenty of experience at the top level, having lifted league trophies in three countries with Ajax, Juventus and Bayern.
The 25-year-old has also represented the Netherlands national team at the 2020 European Championship and 2022 World Cup.
