Mata: “Win at Anfield one of the best day of my career”

Liverpool-v-Manchester-United (2)Juan Mata has described Sunday’s 2-1 win against Liverpool as one of the best days of his career, claiming that he’s now fully understood what the game means to both set of fans.

After a solid display against Spurs, Mata was choses ahead of Angel Di Maria for United’s trip to Anfield and produced an outstanding performance, scoring both goals as Louis Van Gaal’s team played Liverpool off the park and strengthened their grip on a top four finish.

Writing on his blog after the game, the United number 8 said yesterday will live long his mind.

“I can tell you that this Sunday has been one of the happiest days of my career,” he wrote.

“When you start playing football as a kid on muddy pitches, for something so simple and wonderful as having fun, you dream about becoming a footballer one day to be in a game like the one in Anfield.

“Manchester United and Liverpool have one of the biggest sports rivalries, and this is the biggest game in English football. I had been told that many times in the past and I have experienced that myself too.”

The Spaniard described his fantastic second goal, a scissor-kick that left Simon Mignolet no chance and sparked absolute mayhem in the United end, as one of the best of his career.

“It’s one of the best goals of my career for sure, among other things because it happened in such a massive game. And it helped us win,” he said.
