Mata: “Attacking football the key for success”

Manchester-United-v-Tottenham-Hotspur-Premier-LeagueJuan Mata has said that attacking football was the key to Manchester United’s success against Spurs on Sunday, as Louis Van Gaal’s men delivered arguably their best performance of the season.

In the first of a series of game against their direct rivals for top four, United blew the North Londoners away, imposing themselves on the game from the start and returning to the dressing room at half time with a three-goal advantage.

“It was a very important victory in order to finish in the top four, since Tottenham are also in the same race,” Mata wrote on his blog.

“It was arguably our best first half of the season. In those 45 minutes we got three goals and could have scored more.

“The team played with a fast and intense style, also pressing on Spurs’ half of the pitch.”

Deployed on the right in United’s 4-2-3-1 formation, Mata impressed throughout the 77 minutes he spent on the pitch, putting himself in contention for a start at Anfield next week.

The Spaniard was substituted to a standing ovation and he was eager to pay tribute to the fans.

“From a personal point of view I have to say that I felt really good on the pitch and I enjoyed [playing] again from the beginning with my teammates, trying to be helpful in all aspects of the game,” he said.
