Massive setback for Man United, Mason Mount out for 4-5 weeks

Manchester United have received a major injury setback after the first couple of games this season.

Mason Mount has suffered a hamstring injury and is set to be sidelined for four to five weeks, as per The Athletic.

The midfielder took to social media with a heartfelt note, expressing his frustration and solidarity with United supporters.

He wrote: “During the last game, I picked up a minor muscle issue.

“I’ve had it checked, and it looks like I’ll be out for a few games. Leading up to and during pre-season, I worked hard to get my fitness back to where it needed to be, and I felt re-energised, sharp and ready.

“I wanted you to hear directly from me how frustrated I am, as I expect you are too. I will do everything possible to be back in the best shape and help the team.”

The 25-year-old was substituted at half-time against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium last weekend.

United fans were left puzzled by the move as he was one of the standout players on the pitch.

Erik ten Hag confirmed post-match that Mount was taken off due to an ‘issue‘.

The former Chelsea midfielder was signed last summer in an initial £55 million move. He featured only 20 times last season as he suffered several injuries.

Mount had only one year left in his deal with Chelsea when United signed him.

They could have bagged him for free if they had waited for another 12 months.

The England international looked lively in the pre-season. He played a prominent role in pressing from the front in the first three games.

He was expected to retain his starting spot in the high-stakes game against Liverpool this weekend.

However, the injury setback will force Ten Hag to alter his game plan. The Dutchman is under pressure after the 2-1 loss against Brighton and faces a daunting test against Liverpool.
