Former Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri has reportedly told Manchester United that he would be prepared to take over as the new head coach, provided he is offered the role within the next few weeks.
The Italian has been out of duty since parting ways with Juventus at the end of last season but it appears that he is keen on a return to club management sooner rather than later.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as reported by The Mail, Allegri is open to the possibility of becoming the next United boss but for that, the club must act in the near future.
It is added that the 52-year-old wants to work with the squad at the earliest opportunity and he will most likely decline the job, should United make an approach in December.
The Red Devils have made a disappointing start to the current campaign and they are presently in the lower half of the standings with just two points separating them from the drop zone.
As such, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s position is being assessed and a recent report has claimed that he could be sacked, should United suffer a heavy defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford on October 20.
Solskjaer has had good support from executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward in recent months but the patience of the board could run out, should the three-match winless run extend in the Premier League.
Manchester United are likely to receive a major boost on the injury front ahead of the Liverpool clash with Anthony Martial, Luke Shaw, Paul Pogba and Aaron Wan-Bissaka fancied to make their comebacks.
