Mason Greenwood to start, Predicted Manchester United lineup (4-2-3-1) to face Tottenham

Manchester United will be eyeing a fourth straight pre-season victory when they tackle Tottenham Hotspur at the Hongkou Football Stadium in China on Thursday. The Red Devils have witnessed a perfect run of results in their pre-season tour of Australia and the Far East and manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be aiming to end the trip on a positive note with another win under the belt.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Predicted Lineup:

David de Gea made his pre-season bow during the recent 1-0 triumph over Inter Milan. The Spain international should once more feature between the sticks against Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

With a team of Spurs’ quality, Solskjaer will want to play his strongest possible defence. Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw are certainly the undisputed choices for the right and left-back positions respectively while Axel Tuanzebe could accompany Victor Lindelof at the heart of the backline.

Tuanzebe produced a resolute defensive performance against Inter where he was lauded by a section of the fans and the youngster should be offered with another opportunity to impress alongside Lindelof, who has recently reported to training after a minor thigh concern.

In a midfield two, Paul Pogba appears certain to cement one of the positions, given he has flourished with his performances despite the constant speculation over his future. Scott McTominay could get the opportunity to partner the World Cup winner with his added mobility on the field compared to Nemanja Matic.

Further forward, Solskjaer may consider a solitary change from the previous friendly with Daniel James being replaced by Mason Greenwood. James has started each of three pre-season games and he could now drop to the bench for Greenwood, who bagged a stunning winner during his cameo against Antonio Conte’s side.

Greenwood is likely to be tasked with leading the line. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial could slot into the right and left side of the attack respectively while Jesse Lingard may take up the number 10 role after impressing Solskjaer with his pressing against Inter.
