Manchester United’s woeful 2018-19 campaign ended on a low as we were beaten 2-0 at home by relegated Cardiff City on Sunday.
Nathaniel Mendez-Laing scored in each half, the first from the penalty spot, as we failed to convert any of our 26 efforts on goal in a game where we dominated possession.
The game saw Antonio Valencia replace Diogo Dalot in the 74th minute in what was the captain and veteran’s final game for Manchester United before he officially leaves when his contract expires on 30 June.
There was also a start for 17-year-old forward Mason Greenwood. The teenager has been scoring for fun in Nicky Butt’s under-23 side this season and was finally handed a start alongside Marcus Rashford in attack, having been sidelined over the past couple of weeks.
Greenwood played the full 90 minutes and in the process became our youngest-ever starter in the Premier League.
Wearing the number 54 shirt, Greenwood had a decent showing, producing seven efforts on goal and forcing four saves from Neil Etheridge in the Cardiff City goal. Unfortunately, he failed to find the back of the net at Old Trafford in our final game of the season.
