Mason Greenwood is robbed off the Young Player of the Year award

The PFA Young Player of The Year is an accolade awarded to the most consistent, effective, and overall impressive young talent in English football. With the changing landscape of football over the years, an increasing number of managers have shown belief in awarding opportunities and actual first-team action to promising youngsters who either come up from the club’s youth academy and projects or elsewhere.

The presentation of this prestigious award to Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander Arnold has left a bitter taste in the minds of Manchester United fans from all across the world.

The Red’s fullback has had a wonderful season on the Merseyside club, But Mason Greenwood’s impact on Manchester United’s season has outclassed him by a mile.

There should be a conversation among the English Governing body’s officials about the parameters for Young Player of the Year.

It does seem odd that Alexander Arnold, who turns 22 in the next couple of month and has nearly 100 games under his belt, falls into the same category as Greenwood, a teenager who had only featured in three professional fixtures before the start of the season.

Hypothetically, if there were increased restrictions on age and experience, Man United’s goal-hungry youngster would have likely been the winner.

Certainly, he is the standalone emerging player of the season, one who has caught the eye with the all-round gameplay and his ease in finding the back of the net in any situation.

Greenwood, who became Manchester United’s youngest ever Premier League starter on the final day of last season against Cardiff City (17 years and 223 days), has had to bide his time, at least in the league.

Daniel James’ arrival from Swansea City last summer meant a competitor on the right for Greenwood, With the Young Star having to keep his head down and bide his team before making his mark on the team.

The hype around Greenwood seems unavoidable, especially with the ease in which he’s slotted into an attacking triumvirate with Rashford and Martial, both of whom have experience of high expectations early on from the Old Trafford support.

The forward scored a total of 17 goals in all competitions in his debut seasons and can still add to the tally in the Europa League.

Greenwood is also providing a direct goal contribution for United on a more regular basis than any other youngster in Engish football at this current time.

With Greenwood finishing the season with ten Premier League goals and making hitting the back of the net look so easy, There is bound to be a feeling in everyone’s mind that Mason Greenwood has been robbed of the PFA Young Player of the year award.
