Martial inspired by teammates

98070Anthony Martial has revealed he has learnt a lot from Wayne Rooney since joining Manchester United, adding he’s happy to sacrifice himself for the team.

The Frenchman has been one of United’s few bright lights this season, displaying a talent and maturity uncommon for a 19-year-old but, after hitting the ground running since joining from Monaco, his attacking potential has been limited by Louis Van Gaal’s decision to deploy out on the left.

“I have always been considered as an altruistic person,” Martial said.

“This is something that has been said to me quite a lot. So both giving a decisive pass or scoring a goal means as much to me. In the end, the most important thing is to win as a team.

“I think it’s important to keep working hard to constantly improve and help the team to win titles and get back on top of the league table.

“Yes, I have a number in mind [as a goals target] but I’d rather keep it to myself.”

The Frenchman added that his experience at United had been positive so far, as he’s been learning from a number of older players.

“[I improve] by training every day with talented players,” he said.

“Especially with Rooney, I learn a lot from him.

“I always try to get inspired from him so that I can also become a great player.”
