Manchester United will be aiming to end a four-match winless run in the Premier League when they face Norwich City in Sunday’s late kick-off at Carrow Road.
The Red Devils registered their first victory in nearly a month during the 1-0 Europa League triumph over Partizan Belgrade in midweek, but the performance was far from impressive.
Still, there have been positives on the defensive front with the three-man backline working to good effect and Solskjaer is likely to continue with the same formation for the Norwich trip.
Formation: 3-4-1-2
Predicted Lineup:
David de Gea has been the undisputed goalkeeping choice for the Premier League and the Spaniard will definitely start in goal, barring any late fitness concerns. Marcos Rojo, Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire formed the central defensive partnership against Liverpool and Solskjaer is likely to revert to the combination, meaning that Phil Jones will drop to the bench irrespective of his solid display in midweek.
At left wing-back, there is the tempting prospect of fielding Brandon Williams, who has been tidy with his performances in the Europa League. However, Solskjaer will most likely prefer the safer option and Ashley Young should get the nod over the United graduate. On the opposite end, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a definite starter.
In the midfield, Scott McTominay has been ever-present for the Red Devils in the Premier League this term and the Scotland international is expected to take up one of the places. Alongside him, Fred should be backed to get the nod over James Garner. The Brazilian has been inconsistent with his performances but he had one of his best games for United against Liverpool last weekend, where he was efficient with his passing and showed the determination to win the ball.
In the attack, Andreas Pereira is likely to feature in the number 10 role ahead of Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard. Similarly to Fred, Pereira has come for criticism from the fans but he had a credible performance last weekend. The 23-year-old showed his passing range against the Reds and he will be key for United, should they launch a counter-attack against Norwich.
Upfront, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford are braced to start together for the first time since August. Martial and Rashford have scored a goal apiece in the past two appearances and it remains to be seen whether they can link up with the same level of success from the opening month of the season.
