Marcus Rashford shines for Man Utd in 3-3 Europa League draw vs Porto

Manchester United drew 3-3 with Porto in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The Red Devils had a brilliant start to the game at the Estadio do Dragao, with Marcus Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund scoring in the opening 20 minutes.

Goalkeeper Diogo Costa was at fault for both goals, but United deserved their 2-0 lead.

The joy was shortlived with Samu Omorodion and Pepe bringing Porto level before the 35th minute. Omorodion made it 3-2 for Porto shortly after the break.

Bruno Fernandes received his marching orders for a second yellow card, but United salvaged an unlikely draw with a stoppage-time goal from Harry Maguire.

Rashford was undoubtedly the standout performer. Manager Erik ten Hag’s decision to replace him with Alejandro Garnacho at half-time was a major surprise.

It was initially suggested the Englishman may have picked up a knock but the manager revealed after the game that he made the decision to rotate his wingers.

The decision was not justified, given that Rashford was the best player on the pitch in the opening half.

Rashford won 100% of his ground duels (4/4) and 100% of his dribbles (3/3) last night. He opened the scoring and provided the assist for Hojlund’s first goal of the season.

The £50 million-rated star also won his only tackle with a couple of recoveries. He is expected to start when United visit Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday.

The game could be key to deciding Ten Hag’s future. A win or a draw would be a good result, but a defeat could pave the way for the Dutchman’s dismissal.
