Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has revealed that he is making steady progress in his comeback from a back problem sustained earlier in the year.
The England international was in top form for United with 19 goals in 31 games earlier this season before he suffered the injury in the FA Cup third round replay against Wolves in January.
Rashford has since missed 13 games for the club across all competitions but he could still play a big role before the season closure following the recent coronavirus shutdown.
Speaking to The United Podcast, the 22-year-old revealed that he is ready to step up with his workouts after managing to overcome the stress fracture in his back.
However, he added that he would ultimately require time on the training field when the season recommences in order to get back into his shape – which is a similar case for his teammates.
“I’m ready to step it up a little bit now, it’s difficult to do with not being in the training ground,” the England international explained on the UTD podcast.
“I’ve just added a few bits and pieces and am pushing myself a bit more on the bike, doing some more core work and upper body. Just day-by-day really, taking it slow.
“It’s difficult, training at the training ground every day is the peak of your fitness, to try and emulate that at home is almost impossible but everyone’s just trying to get as close to that as they can to that.”
Rashford’s absence from the playing field had an effect before the winter break as United went three Premier League games on the bounce without finding the back of the net.
However, their performances improved thereafter with winter arrival Bruno Fernandes and Anthony Martial impressing in tandem and making key goalscoring contributions in the league.
Elsewhere, loan signing Odion Ighalo was able to lift the scoring burden off Martial in the Cup competitions and prior to the shutdown, he managed four goals and one assist from just three starts.
United are currently in a good position to qualify for the Champions League next term and the injury comebacks of Rashford and Pogba should only better their prospects of doing so.
