Manchester United are facing a massive dilemma regarding the uncertain future of Marcus Rashford.
Rashford has long been a poster boy for Man United after rising through the academy ranks.
The England international went on to make more than 400 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring iconic goals and winning the UEFA Europa League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup with his boyhood club.
He will always be remembered fondly but his immediate future has now become one of the biggest problems facing INEOS this summer.
His working relationship with the club and former manager Ruben Amorim became strained, ultimately forcing him to join Aston Villa on loan in January 2025 before spending the entire 2025-26 campaign at Barcelona.
The 28-year-old is expected to return to Carrington for pre-season, but there is very little expectation that he will be reintegrated into the first-team setup.
With United back in the UEFA Champions League, Rashford is also set to earn a staggering salary worth around £325,000 per week.
INEOS have worked hard to trim the wage bill, and welcoming Rashford back may not make much sense financially.
Here we look at his possible destinations.
Barcelona
Rashford had a productive season with the La Liga giants, bagging 14 goals and 14 assists across all competitions.
Many expected the Catalan giants to trigger the £26m buy option included in the agreement. Instead, Barcelona aggressively pursued Anthony Gordon and completed a £69m deal for the Newcastle United winger.
They are aware that United hold very little negotiating power in this situation.
They could attempt to negotiate another loan deal, especially with Rashford still desperate to continue playing at Camp Nou.
Aston Villa
Rashford enjoyed an impressive six-month spell at Villa Park.
He made 10 goal contributions in 17 games for Aston Villa.
Manager Unai Emery used his strengths to perfection, especially against Paris Saint-Germain.
With Villa returning to the UEFA Champions League next season, Rashford’s experience at the elite level could prove extremely valuable.
Newcastle United
The departure of Gordon to Barcelona will force Newcastle to dive into the market and sign a winger.
Rashford could emerge as an attractive short-term option, particularly at a bargain fee.
However, a move to St James’ Park currently feels unlikely because Newcastle will not be competing in European football next season.
Bayern Munich
Anthony Gordon had been heavily linked with Bayern Munich in recent months, but Barcelona moved quickly to complete the transfer.
The Bundesliga giants are now expected to explore alternative attacking options, with Rashford potentially entering the conversation.
The prospect of linking up with fellow England star Harry Kane could also appeal to the United forward.
Bayern remain overwhelming favourites to dominate the Bundesliga again next season and are also genuine contenders for the UEFA Champions League.
If INEOS can convince Bayern to pursue a permanent deal instead of another loan arrangement, it would represent a huge victory for the Red Devils.
Arsenal
Arsenal will look to sign a left winger in the summer, with uncertainty surrounding the futures of Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli.
There is no doubt that Rashford would be an upgrade on Trossard and Martinelli.
A front three of Rashford, Bukayo Saka and Viktor Gyokeres could guarantee goals for the Gunners.
However, a move to Arsenal could seriously damage Rashford’s relationship with sections of the United fanbase due to the fierce rivalry between the two clubs.
