Marcus Rashford admits that he has a decision to make on his injury

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is unsure if he needs operations for his injuries.

The 23-year old had another fine season with the Red Devils, scoring 21 goals and 15 assists in 57 outings across all competitions.

He had a fine start to the campaign but his form declined significantly in the last 3-4 months.

Rashford was hampered by shoulder and foot injuries, and these have limited his involvement with England at the European Championships.

The United superstar is yet to start for the Three Lions with Raheem Sterling favoured on the left flank.

Sterling has found the back of the net twice and is expected to start against Germany in the last 16.

This means that Southgate will utilise Rashford as an impact player from the bench if needed.

He told reporters (as quoted by the club website): “It’s either an operation or I don’t get an operation.

“I’m not 100 percent sure if I need it yet, so I’ll just take it as it comes.

“I’ll finish strong here and I’ve got a few weeks off to just relax and decide what I’m going to do.

He was then quizzed on whether there are chances that he will miss the start of the next season.

He replied: “The doctors have not said yet.

“The reason I don’t know is that when the season was going, and before I came here, I knew there was no chance I was going to be getting the operation, so I did not know how long the operation would put me out for.

“I am fully concentrated on here. When the tournament is finished, then I will ask the question.

“Obviously, I am not performing at my best and what I know I can perform to.

“Whatever that is down to, it doesn’t really matter because it has been going on since early on in the season.

“I managed to get through the season with United.

“I think I had 36 goal involvements so I can’t look back at the year and say ‘I should have taken time off to do this and do that’.

“That’s just not the way I look at things. I just want to be available for every game.”

Rashford’s desire to play every game and contribute to his team’s success is understandable.

However, he also needs to pay attention to his fitness.

Aggravating an injury in a bid to start the new season on time would not be a sensible choice.

If at all he decides to go under the knife, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to find a player who can perform with the same level of intensity.

The manager cannot afford his team to make another lacklustre start to the campaign.
