Manchester United will bid to record their first win of the Europa League campaign when they face Fenerbahce on the road this evening.
The Red Devils have had an average start to the season, picking up just 11 points from their opening eight Premier League games.
The club have also been disappointing in the Europa League with back-to-back draws and have the chance to put things right tonight.
Manager Erik ten Hag will be forced into a couple of changes with Jonny Evans injured and Bruno Fernandes suspended.
The latter’s absence could be a blessing in disguise for Manuel Ugarte, who has played just nine minutes in the last three games in all competitions.
Ugarte joined the club with much hype from Paris Saint-Germain, and he was tipped to become an undisputed starter in the number six role.
However, he has played second fiddle to Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro. The latter had a solid showing versus Brentford on Saturday at Old Trafford.
Ugarte could line up alongside Casemiro tonight, with Christian Eriksen moving into an advanced attacking midfield role in Fernandes’ absence.
The Uruguayan is undoubtedly a quality player with his strong distribution and defensive attributes, but he needs to stand out with his performance.
The ‘tireless‘ ace won’t get a better chance than against Fenerbahce. The 23-year-old will come up against a robust midfield duo of Fred and Sofyan Amrabat.
Their playing style could suit Ugarte who tends to prefer a physical battle in the centre of the park.
Ten Hag has repeatedly said that the £42 million-rated star has to adapt to the playing style, and Ugarte has the opportunity to prove his credentials.
