Manchester United have given Amad Diallo Traore two squad numbers to choose from, claims Fabrizio Romano.
In Episode 10 of Here We Go Podcast, Romano claimed that the 18-year-old would choose either 19 or 79 as his new squad number at Manchester United.
Squad number 19 holds a special place for United’s youngsters being previously worn by Gerard Piqué, Danny Welbeck, and most recently Marcus Rashford.
On the other hand, No. 79 is what Diallo is currently occupying for Atalanta. As his first professional number, this could be special to the teenager. He might be looking forward to leaving his own mark on the respective number.
United paid €21 million (£19 million) as the initial transfer fee for Traore. However, the Serie A side could pocket €20 million (£18 million) more in add-on fees. [source: The Athletic]
Diallo will join Manchester United in January after attaining a work permit. He has been a regular name on the bench for Atalanta’s senior side this season. Though, he is yet to make an appearance.
Romano also adds that Amad Diallo is not ready yet to match the competitiveness of English football.
Manchester United sees him as one of the top three talents born in 2002. Consequently, expectations would be high for him at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’, but given his lack of competitive action this year, it’s likely that he will either be sent out on loan again or eased into action at Old Trafford through reserve team action and the odd off the bench appearance.
