Manchester United’s Luke Shaw played Euro 2020 knockout stage with broken ribs

Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw played the European Championship knockout matches with broken ribs, according to The Telegraph.

The 26-year-old was highly impressive for England at the tournament, starting in every game bar one.

He also scored a goal in the final but ended up on the losing side as Italy won in a penalty shoot-out.

It has now emerged that the former Southampton player broke his ribs in the 2-0 win over Germany and was playing through the pain barrier in the subsequent matches against Ukraine, Denmark and Italy.

It is now uncertain whether Shaw can play the Premier League opener for United on August 14.

The Red Devils are reportedly keen to assess his fitness as soon as possible.

Shaw is a highly talented player who is known for his speed, defending skills and decision making.

He has improved at United since Jose Mourinho publicly criticised him in 2017 for his performances.

Last season, he made 47 appearances across all competitions for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, scoring a goal and creating six assists.

United cannot afford to have Shaw on the sidelines for too long.

They will be looking to win the Premier League title this season and he can play an important role in their pursuit of the league crown.
