Manchester United will head into 2026 knowing that the next two transfer windows are pivotal to their hopes of regularly challenging for major silverware.
The Red Devils have finally started to improve under manager Ruben Amorim, but there is still plenty of work to do to get the squad to where it needs to be.
In the short term, Amorim will be desperate to guide United to a top-four finish this season. Odds of 10/3 to achieve the feat will undoubtedly attract plenty of interest.

Baleba has gone off the boil at Brighton & Hove Albion, while Wharton and Anderson are unlikely to leave their respective clubs before the end of the season.
A midfield pairing of Wharton and Anderson would be the ideal scenario for United, but the costs of making that happen are prohibitive.
Anderson is a solid all-rounder, but Wharton’s ability to pick passes which other players cannot see makes him a more appealing option for United.
Pairing Wharton with Atlanta’s Ederson or Atletico Madrid star Conor Gallagher would be a positive move and also more affordable.
Completing a move for either of those players during the winter transfer window could be feasible and give United one piece of their long-term midfield jigsaw.
Squad headaches abound for Amorim
United got several underachievers off their books last summer, but still have a sizeable group of players who face uncertain futures at the club.
They include Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee and Tyrell Malacia. At least a couple of that group could move on next month.
While the latter-named trio would not be missed at United, many fans believe that Mainoo has the ability to develop into a world-class player.
Unfortunately, he does not appear suited to Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 system and the Red Devils need to consider whether that will ever change.
If the club are planning to acquire a new central midfield pairing, Mainoo’s chances of forcing his way into the first team would be limited.
Moving him on for a sizeable fee would likely be a shrewd move given that it would generate funds which could be used to improve the starting XI.
United have other issues they need to address, particularly at wing-back, where their current options are failing to fit into the system.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown has been touted as a potential solution on the left flank, and that is a deal which could be done during the next transfer window.
Palace star Daniel Munoz is an option on the right-hand side, although United may feel that they need to target a younger alternative.
United will likely use the upcoming transfer window to tweak things a little before putting the finishing touches on the squad next summer.
