According to the report from French outlet L’Equipe (via Sportwitness), Manchester United youth prodigy, Aliou Traoré, was close to joining Marseille in the last summer transfer window but ended up rejecting their offer and moving to Ligue 2 side Caen on a season-long loan deal.
Thought to be one of the most talented prospects the Mancunian academy has had produced over the last few years, Aliou Traoré is a modern and improvised version of his compatriot Paul Pogba.
He can play either in the midfield in a box-to-box role and in the wide areas.
A box-to-box midfielder by trade, Traoré was believed to have asked for first-team football at Manchester United, as per the aforementioned report.
But it was visible that Traoré, 19, needed a loan spell to sharpen up his attributes.
The story further suggests Pablo Longoria, the new director of football of Olympique de Marseille, was keen to secure his services and bring in the Frenchman to their first-team last summer.
He believingly considered him ‘one of the bigger talents of his generation in the role’.
However, sensing that he might not play regular football their either, Traoré chose to join Caen, where he has already made two appearances for their ‘B’ team and two for their senior side.
The scorer of four goals in 19 outings for the Manchester United U23, Traoré’s primary aim would be to gain as much experience as he can and return to United next season.
