Transfer Rumours

Manchester United will splash €50m for a defender next summer under one condition

As per The Athletic, Manchester United are exploring the possibility of signing Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig next summer. United desperately need a center-back and the Red Devils are ready to make big investment.

However, the player will only consider a move if United are in the Champions League.

We’ve seen this trend in players demanding more and more minutes at the biggest stage of football – and there’s nothing wrong in it. United have had a poor start to the season – losing to Crystal Palace and Spurs in the league dropping six points out of nine. Theie performance against Brighton were they won 3-2 was awry too.

Upamecano was linked in this transfer window too. However, he signed a contract extension in April with a €50m release clause. The release clause activates in the second-last year of his contract – 2021.

Last month, Upamecano denied moving as he was ‘focused’ to play for Leipzig.

Metro reports that Upamecano could be available for £36.5m – but it is highly unlikely Leipzig will let him go cheaper than his release clause. Liverpool are in the race to sign Upamecano too.
