Manchester United vs West Ham United: FA Cup preview, team news & predicted starting XI

Manchester United will return to action in midweek as they meet West Ham United in the last 16 of the FA Cup.

United have gone from strength to strength under manager Erik ten Hag most recently securing their first trophy in six years with a 2-0 win over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final.

West Ham endured a difficult start to their season but have found their feet in recent weeks and will be hopeful of a positive result this week.

The Red Devils have won six of their last seven games in this fixture and will be targeting victory here.

When and where will the game take place?

After their successful trip to Wembley Stadium on Sunday, United will return to Old Trafford for the game against the Hammers.

The tie is set to be played on Wednesday night as the penultimate fixture of the cup round.

Manchester United

United are enjoying a brilliant run of results of form at the moment which saw them clinch the Carabao Cup title on Sunday.

Erik ten Hag’s side will continue their quest for more silverware this weekend, building on their 3-1 wins over Everton and Reading in their first two rounds of the FA Cup campaign.

United faced West Ham in their last appearance in the last 16 of the domestic cup back in the 2020-21 campaign, winning 1-0 and will hope for similar luck this week.

Anthony Martial is unavailable for selection as he continues his recovery from injury, while Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek also remain out.

West Ham United

The visitors faced Brentford in their first FA Cup game of the season, winning 1-0 via a Said Benrahma strike in the second half.

They faced Derby County in the next round and picked up a 2-0 win, with Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio scoring early in either half.

The Hammers have struggled in the league this season but will be hopeful of a deep run in the domestic cup despite their poor record at Old Trafford.

First-choice goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski picked up an injury in their game against Nottingham Forest at the weekend and is expected to miss out on the trip to Manchester.

The Red Devils have played plenty of games lately, with Ten Hag expected to rotate his name XI this week.

Marcel Sabitzer has featured in every league game for United since he arrived at the club and could make his FA Cup debut on Wednesday.

The midfielder has been impressive in his five outings in Red and will be looking to produce a match-winning performance against the Hammers.

Declan Rice is West Ham’s most important player and has consistently performed well in a difficult campaign. The Englishman will be looking to lead his side to a famous victory this week.
