Manchester United will travel to West Yorkshire to lock horns with Leeds United this Sunday.
Both sides registered encouraging victories in mid-week and now they will be hoping to build on their positive results.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side crashed out of the Champions League in a humiliating fashion after suffering a 3-2 defeat against RB Leipzig in their last group match. They also failed to take full points in the Old Trafford encounter against their arch-rivals Manchester City, with the defensive approach of both sides producing a 0-0 stalemate.
However, the Red Devils returned to winning ways at Bramall Lane where Marcus Rashford earned a brace and Anthony Martial also scored to claim victory against Chris Wilder’s struggling Sheffield United by 3-2.
Meanwhile, Leeds United were also struggling to perform well in the Premier League after providing a brilliant start to the 2020-21 campaign. Following their 1-0 victory at Everton, the Whites suffered two back-to-back defeats against Chelsea and West Ham.
However, Marcelo Bielsa’s side bounced back with an emphatic 5-2 win against Newcastle at Elland Road to reinvigorate their campaign.
Both United and Leeds haven’t met each other in the Premier League since Sept. 2004 when they played out a 1-1 draw. The Red Devils have beaten the Peacocks 46 times in all competitions, while they suffered defeats on 26 occasions and saw 35 draws.
The Whites knocked out Sir Alex Ferguson’s side in the 2010 FA Cup by claiming victory at Old Trafford, while United served them the same treatment at Elland Road in the 2011 League Cup.
As for injuries, Bielsa won’t have the services of Diego Llorente, Gaetano Berardi, Robin Koch, and Adam Forshaw while United’s two players Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo are sidelined, with new arrival Edinson Cavani’s full fitness also uncertain.
