Manchester United’s loss to Crystal Palace in their first game of the new EPL season has earned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer criticism.
United’s result puts pressure on Solskjaer to deliver. The manager still has his share of critics despite improving the club’s fortunes since taking over.
Solskjaer took over at United after the sacking of Jose Mourinho.
There is a feeling that the criticism directed at the manager is only partly due to the loss to Palace. OGS is also being undeservedly accused of playing a part in United’s recent transfer market failings.
The whole situation took a turn for the worse when Talksport pundit Tony Cascarino suggested a radical approach to deal with the Norwegian’s failings.
Here is what Cascarino said: “I think Solskjaer got a lot wrong yesterday because he should have made changes a lot earlier”.
“I was watching Leeds in the earlier game, and then watching Man United at 5:30 pm, and I was thinking”, ‘maybe United do need something different’.
He added: “Not players, but maybe they need Bielsa.”
His justification for this view was: “I’m looking at Man United and thinking they do the exact opposite of what Leeds do – they don’t take risks”.
The Pundit believes that United should sack their manager after a defeat in the first game and replace him with Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa.
Marcelo Bielsa has often been heralded as the ‘genius’ due to this meticulous and research-based approach to the game, particularly after he changed Leeds United’s fortunes and got them promoted to the Premier League after 16 years of exile.
The club have always been known for sticking with their managers during tough times. There is much hope that Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward and the rest of board officials will not press the panic button based on a few isolated incidents.
