Manchester United transfer target talks about desire to win trophies

Tottenham Hotspur’s only hope of winning silverware vanished when Manchester City pipped them to lift their fourth consecutive Carabao Cup last weekend.

While the result confirmed another trophyless season for Spurs, star striker Harry Kane subsequently picked up an individual accolade.

Kane was crowned Premier League Player of the Year at the London Football awards yesterday, but admitted that he wants to “team trophies”.

He told the Evening Standard that he is “disappointed” with the season Tottenham are having so far.

He said: “Individual awards are great, they are fantastic achievements. When I look back at the end of my career, I will go over it and take in a little bit more.

“The goal right now as a player is to win team trophies. As much as this [award] is great, I want to be winning the biggest prizes that there is to offer as a team and we are not quite doing that.

“For sure, if I finish my career as Premier League top goalscorer and, hopefully, England top goalscorer, that’d be incredible.

“But it wouldn’t feel as good if I didn’t have the Premier League or a European Championships to go with that.

“It has been a disappointing season if I am totally honest.

“We have had so many opportunities and been in many games where we have been ahead or in a great position going into the last 15 to 20 minutes, and we have not got over the line.

The 27-year old forward has been in scintillating form this season, bagging 21 goals and 13 assists.

He has directly been involved in 34 of Tottenham’s 56 Premier League goals this season, highlighting their dependence on him.

Kane is undoubtedly one of the best strikers in the world. Every major European club would love to have him as their number nine.

Manchester United have been linked to signing a striker this summer as Edinson Cavani looks set to leave the club after just one season.

The Red Devils have recently handed Eric Bailly a new contract. This indicates that cash will be spent elsewhere on the squad this summer.

If United can pair Kane with Bruno Fernandes next season, the England striker may finally fulfil his desire to win club honours.
