Manchester United to target young Scottish defender – had one week trial

According to a report from Tele Sport [via Evening Telegraph], Manchester United are one of the many English Premier League clubs looking to sign young Dundee United defender Kerr Smith.

Smith, currently 15, is an awe-inspiring talent. Now a regular for Dundee United’s senior side, Smith broke into the first-team last summer in a friendly game when he was up against Sheffield United’s veteran striker Billy Sharp.

He did considerable well and caught the eyes of his boss Micky Mellon, alongside those scouting the aspiring centre-back for some time then.

Formerly a central midfielder, Smith was given the role of center-back while he was under the supervision of Dundee United’s senior academy head coach Adam Asghar.

As revealed by the Scottish outlet Evening Telegraph, Manchester United are one of the teams interested in pursuing the services of the youngster from the Sottish side Dundee United, who are currently 6th in the Scottish Premiership.

Even though Manchester United and Everton are the most interested parties, it’s believed that Aston Villa are currently at the front of the line to rack up the teenager’s signature.

Interestingly, Kerr spent a week trialing in United’s facilities.

Should Manchester United sign the young prospect, it is understood that he would be sent directly into United’s youth sides and would prosper through the ranks.

Man United signed 20 teenagers since the start of 2019. Director of Development Nicky Butt is heading a massive revelation going to with United’s academy and Smith fits right in to their plans.
