Manchester United to target Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister in double transfer swoop

Manchester United have looked weak in midfield when Casemiro and Christian Eriksen were absent due to suspension or injuries.

To address the situation, Man United have added Brighton & Hove Albion duo Moises Caicedo and Alexis Mac Allister to their transfer shortlist, according to The Telegraph.

Caicedo was the subject of multiple bids from Arsenal in the January transfer window but Brighton refused to let the Ecuadorian international leave.

He was so keen to join the Gunners that he released a statement on social media asking the club to allow him to move on.

Since then, he has extended his contract with the Seagulls until 2027.

Mac Allister also penned a new deal this season but is expected to be the figure of interest in the summer after his heroics with Argentina at the Qatar World Cup.

Man United should not spend £70 million on a back-up

Caicedo has established himself as one of the finest holding midfielders in the Premier League this season.

He would be a fantastic signing for any top team, but the Red Devils already have Casemiro in their ranks, who is undroppable.

The former Real Madrid star not only provides security to the defence but also has a surreal range of passing that Caicedo lacks.

If Caicedo does come to Old Trafford, he would merely be back up to Casemiro. The 21-year-old wants to be more than just a reserve player, especially with Arsenal and Chelsea also interested in his services.

Mac Allister is a fine central midfielder who can operate as a number eight or number ten. In 25 league games this campaign, he has bagged eight goals and registered one assist.

Although he played a key role in Argentina’s World Cup triumph, he is not a player United should splash £70m on.

If they want a dominant midfielder, they should set their sights on Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.

The England international is the player who can transform United into a robust Premier League challenger next season.

The Red Devils will have to break their transfer record to sign him, as he is one of the most coveted players in Europe.
