According to a report by Todofichajes, Manchester United are looking to reignite their interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
United are ready to put as much as €100 million on the table to obtain Saul Niguez’s signature.
The Spanish international was one of the signings Man United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted at the club in the summer. But, his wishes were not fulfilled. Now, United hope to charm Atletico Madrid into selling the midfielder.
As stated in the report, Saul had already given his assent to move to Manchester United. So that’s one less thing for United to worry about.
United were very interested in adding the midfielder in the summer.
The Spaniard is injured for the first month of the new campaign. Atletico’s lack of opinions on that issue are only adding fuel to the already well-stocked fire of exit rumors.
Saul’s desire to leave Atletico in the summer was said to be fueled by the club’s lack of progress on the European front. Saul was a part of both the squads which lost to Real Madrid in two Champions League finals
Saul is contracted to Atletico Madrid till 2026 – which means its going to be hard to lure him away from the Spanish capital.
Saul Niguez is valued at €70 million by Transfermarkt.
Our take
We don’t think United need to pay such a ridiculous fee to sign Saul. They already have the likes of Fred, Scott McTominay, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic pulling the strings for them. Even if Matic leaves, the likes of Jimmy Garner and Dylan Levitt are performing well to warrant a place on the team.
However, given United’s poor fate with injuries, there is case to be made that they need a backup option. But, we stick to our point that they don’t need to pay such a high fee.
