Report: Manchester United to hand star player with six-year deal worth £150,000-a-week

Manchester United are understood to be planning discussions with defender Victor Lindelof as they seek to commit him to a long-term contract until the summer of 2025.

The Sweden international has been with the club for the past two seasons and the previous campaign saw the best of him with a string of impressive performances in the central defence.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has already spoken about the need to have a settled central defensive partnership and it appears that the club are working towards the same by opening talks with Lindelof.

According to The Mirror, United are ready to negotiate a new deal with the former Benfica man which would double his current £75,000-a-week wages while extending his existing contract by four more seasons.

Ever since the days of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, the club have struggled to find a settled pair at the heart of the backline, but Lindelof and Maguire seem the ideal personnel to solve the defensive concern.

Maguire is already tied up to United until the 2024/25 season through his summer arrival and the club appear keen on committing Lindelof for a similar period of time to find a permanent central defensive solution.

United started the new Premier League campaign in sublime fashion with a 4-0 drubbing of top-four rivals Chelsea. They are scheduled to tackle Wolverhampton Wanderers on the road in their next league game on Monday night.

Solskjaer’s side failed to win any of their three games against the west Midlands outfit last term, but the players should fancy ending the winless run with a new-look defence involving Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
