United were interested in adding the striker into their ranks as a foil for star striker Anthony Martial. But, they were put-off by the fees asked by Everton.
Everton put a price tag of £80 million (€87m/$106m) on the striker. Given United’s reluctance to pay the £108 asking price for their #1 target Jadon Sancho, it is safe to say Calvert Lewin doesn’t fit United’s budget.
Calvert-Lewin has had a stunning start to the season, scoring four goals in the first two games of the season. This includes a hat-trick against West Brom. The youngster’s performances in the previous season earned him a new 5-year extension in March.
Manchester United have been interested in adding a forward into their ranks this summer. The club have already been rejected by star prospect Victor Osimhen in favor of the Italian side Napoli.
The Red Devils are also interested in out-of-contract star striker Edinson Cavani.
The lack of quality back-up in this position also justifies United’s interest in Calvert-Lewin. Odion Ighalo’s loan deal with United ends in less than 100 days.
